ORANGE, CA- The Los Angeles Chapter of Overseas Friends of Bharatiya Janata Party, USA, welcomed Raman Malik, BJP Spokesperson from Haryana, India. The public event was organized at Tandoor Cuisine of India here on May 28. In attendance were senior leaders of local organizations including VHP, HSS,
American Hindu Foundation, ICS, UFICA, and others. The event started with a `Meet and Greet’ where local community leaders and OFBJP members had the opportunity to have lunch with Malik and personally discuss their issues with him. P K Nayak, the Convener of OFBJP California, introduced key businessmen and leaders to Malik.
Vijay Patil, General Secretary of OFBJP-LA started the event by wishing everyone a happy Memorial Day. He welcomed the audience and thanked them for making it to the event on a short notice. All attendees then had a chance to introduce themselves to Malik.
Dr. Surendra Sharma then introduced Malik to the gathering and requested him to address the audience.
Malik started by thanking the audience for maintaining the respect and connection to India and supporting the development in India as NRIs. He highlighted his personal interactions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described him as a humble `pradhan sewak.’
Malik then spent close to an hour to explain the rationale, progress, and benefits of many initiatives that are being undertaken by the BJP government — Swatchh Bharat, corruption eradication, demonetization, Ujwala, real estate reforms, international support , infrastructure developement. On women’s empowerment, he described the key role that women are playing in the NDA administration. He summarized the efforts of the BJP government as “Mulabhut Chhote Chhote Parivartan!”, a process that was later described by the organizers as “Fundamental Transformation”.
Following this, Indian-Americans who have made the US their home for the last 30 to 40 years, expressed their views on `New India. Most of them pointed out to the transformational changes that India is undergoing and suggested that their beloved country, India, will become the India of their dreams very soon. Community leaders and OFBP members who expressed their views included Ramjibhai Patel, Dr. Rangesh Gadasalli, Vasundhara Pawar, Ashok Patnaik, Amrit Bhandari, Kamlesh Chouhan, and Manmohan Chopra.
This was followed by a long and detailed Q &A session. The audience questions ranged from personal age-old investment challenges to the role NRI’s can play in 2019 elections. The event came to a conclusion with Jitubhai Patel giving the vote of thanks.
