SANTA MONICA, CA - Hope in Life Foundation hosted a fundraiser on Sept 22, at the historic Santa Monica Bay Women’s Club. The non-profit located in Los Angeles was established in 2013 by Rupsi Burman after the horrific Nirbhaya case in New Delhi that shook the world. Its aim is to educate and train women and children in India.

The two and half hour entertainment was enjoyed by 250 plus guests presented by local artists. Niravroh Laha gave an enchanting sitar recital accompanied by Roddur Dasgupta on tabla. Joita Bose Mandal’s School of Music rendered beautiful songs in Bengali.
The surprise guest, the world renowned Sarangi player, Pankaj Mishra, accompanied Joita’s Mahalaya songs which added a whole new dimension to the renditions.
Madhu Basu’s Bharatnatyam Dance Group performed enchanting dance numbers.
Performances by the Sharanya Dance Academy were the highlight of the evening. No event is complete without feet tapping Bollywood music which drew guests to the dance floor. Ghazals and Bollywood hits were rendered by LA’s popular duo, Samir & Madhumita Chatterjee. Master of Ceremonies Simonti Mukhopadhyay kept the crowd engaged throughout the evening.
The event was sponsored by Purnima Thakran and Khalid Khan.Other notable guests included Dr. Bharat Patel and his family.
