LOS ANGELES, CA – Indian-American and Baloch nationalists gathered in several cities across the US to protest human rights violations by Pakistan. LOS ANGELES, CA – Indian-American and Baloch nationalists gathered in several cities across the US to protest human rights violations by Pakistan. In Los Angeles on Sept. 25, people gathered in front of the CNN building on Sunset Blvd., to voice their deep anguish at what was happening to minorities,
women and children in Pakistan. The pro-India group, consisting mainly of Kashmiri Hindus but inclusive of people from Assam to Kerala, according to organizer Dr.Amrit Nehru, carried placards highlighting the oppression. At the same time another group consisiting of Kashmiri Muslims and Pakistanis held banners against India and demanding ‘freedom’ for Kashmir.
Houston
Baloch nationalists along with members of the Indian-American community staged a protest outside the Pakistan consulate shouting slogans against that country for its human rights violations.
Many protestors urged the United States government to stop funding Pakistan. The protest ended with the gathering singing the national anthems of the US and India.
New York
The United Nations was the venue in New York for Balochis to protest Pakistan’s suppression of its peoples. Anti-Pakistan NGO, American Friends of Balochistan, pleaded for UN intervention to protect the Balochis. About 40 people participated in the demonstration held behind steel barricades in the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza.
