CANOGA PARK, CA – The India Association of Los Angeles (IALA) celebrated India’s Republic Day on February 7 at Royal Delhi Palace here with great enthusiasm and pride. Prior to the event, Consul General of India, Ambassador Venkatesan Ashok addressed a gathering of the Board of Directors. and Executive committee members. on Arrival’ facility.His simplicity and willingness to work for the Indian-American community touched everybody’s heart.
The celebration started with the American National Anthem sung by twin sisters Rama & Rucha Kelkar followed by the Indian national Anthem sung by Riya Puri & Pragya Gupta. Chairman Iqbal Samara and President Vinod Manchhani welcomed all in their opening speeches.
A video presentation was made by Sunil Agrawal, VP – Public Relations, to highlight the history and significance of India’s Republic Day. It was packed with historical information about Republic Day, and showed highlights of this year’s India Republic Day Parade, where president Obama was the chief guest.
Various dignitaries graced the occasion and enjoyed the cultural program. Scott Abrams, District Director from Congressman Brad Sherman’s office; Oscar Garcia, District Director from the office of Assemblymember Matthew Dababneh; and Poonam Narewatt, Central Area Representative from the Office of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti were present. They were welcomed and honored by President Vinod Manchhani, Executive Vice President Manmohan Chopara and Secretary Arvind Gupta. The dignitaries addressed the audience and presented certificates to the association. IALA provides a platform to the kids to showcase their talent. Nalini Natrajan VP-Cultural, along with Kavita Puri, Nishi, and Kiran Khamboj emceed the program. The cultural segment started with a group dance. Oher beautiful dances were performed by Thalam School of fine arts, EB Bollywood dance school and Shingari’s school of Rhythm. Kamini Natrajan sang a few songs on Karaoke in her melodious voice. The event ended with an open dance floor with guests shaking a leg and dancing the night away.
