FONTANA, CA - The United Sikh Mission has concluded its annual eye and medical camps in North India end Nov. These camps offered free eye exams, spectacles, operations, medicine, and eye drops. Many people who were previously blind or had limited eyesight can now see. This year the Mission ran about 40 camps in Punjab and other parts of North India. The 40 camps held benefited over 400 villages. Approximately 32,000 patients were screened and the doctors performed over 3,000 surgeries and approximately 14,000 eyeglasses distributed free of charge. Along with the routine cataract surgeries, the doctors also performed two very complicated operations on an octogenarian man and a little boy. Both patients had lost their eyesight and the doctors put their knowledge and skills to test and restored their eyesight.

All surgeries and services are provided free and are a part of the Mission’s commitment to serve the underprivileged and those from the weakest sections of society. The United Sikh Mission also works in other fields like education, hygiene and sanitation,and female foeticide / rights of the girl child. Chair and Founder United Sikh Mission Jathedar Rashpal Singh aims to expand this effort and do it on a national scale in as many states of India as possible.
