BEIJING, CHINA - In a ceremony held in Beijing, China, the South Asian Spelling Bee signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Spelling Bee of China (SPBCN) for mutual co-operation and growth. American spellers to compete as well as help train the Chinese spellers. The founder of the South Asian Spelling Bee, Rahul Walia was invited this year for the launch of the 2016-17 season of the SPBCN, where he gave key remarks and signed an MoU to foster growth and promotion between the two Bees. While exact details are not made public the MoU will include a speller exchange for learning purposes while sharing of best practices and knowledge base.
“We are very delighted to interact and work with SPBCN and offer our as well as their spellers an opportunity to learn about each other’s cultures”, said Rahul Walia. According to an official release, the winner of South Asian Spelling Bee in 2017 will be sent to the Spelling Bee of China as a guest to watch and vice versa.
The South Asian Spelling Bee will be marking its 10th anniversary in 2017 and is conducted across 12 cities in the US with an international center in Accra, Ghana. Talks are underway to bring the South Asian Spelling Bee to other countries so spellers have an opportunity to compete in the Finale here in the US.
