DIAMOND BAR, CA - An “Evening of Colors” was held successfully at the Diamond Bar City Center on Mar. 6. A fundraiser for the Diamond Bar High School by the South Asian Parent Association, the event fulfilled its mission of celebrating the colors of diversity by bringing in various groups to celebrate as one.
DIAMOND BAR, CA - An “Evening of Colors” was held successfully at the Diamond Bar City Center on Mar. 6. A fundraiser for the Diamond Bar High School by the South Asian Parent Association, the event fulfilled its mission of celebrating the colors of diversity by bringing in various groups to celebrate as one.
The purpose of SAPA is to promote a sense of belonging in the mainstream community and raising awareness of the Indian subcontinent’s culture.Toward this purpose, the evening’s event was been a labor of love by the board and the members of the association. The board includes Co-Presidents: Archana Verma and Lubna Akbany, Vice President: Naila Barlas, Co-Secretaries: Harpreet Kaur Dhir and Shazia Syed, Treasurer: Nausheen Tabani, IT coordinator: Dharmesh Shah, and Event Coordinator: Deepam Shah.
The event’s guest of honor was Steve Tye, mayor of Diamond Bar along with the distinguished guest, Kimi Verma, CEO and designer of Shail K. as well as a Punjabi film actress. Their message of cultural awareness and community building was well received by all who attended. To add to the charm of the event, Tye came dressed in the traditional kurta and Catherine Real, principal of Diamond Bar High School, sported a black sari.
The excitement could be felt throughout the evening with one performance after the other by high school students and community groups. There were dances, music, and a fashion show . Groups such as The Full-K Fusion Musical Band, Bolly X Bollywood step workshop, and 3D sound DJ Amit Kotecha kept the level of enjoyment high. Emcee Omi Trikha kept the crowd engaged with his humor and upbeat personality. It truly was an ‘Evening of Colors’. The event was sponsored by several city based organizations as well as Indian-American professionals and businesses. Sponsors said that their giving was done in a spirit of community building.
