speech by Inder Singh, Chairman of the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin. Commencing the event, he pointed that Indian Heritage Awards is a celebration of knowledge and persistence and is presented to those who bring name and fame to the community.
Singh also thanked team members for making the event a great success and mentioned, “An individual, howsoever brilliant, intelligent and smart, would find it difficult, if not impossible to match the collaborative efforts of an effective team and he is blessed with a team which has been providing selfless service for the cause of our youth.”
The beautiful spring afternoon saw several award presentations amid a playlist of patriotic songs and delicious food servings in a packed hall. Cerritos Mayor Pro Tem, Naresh Solanki and Artesia Mayor Ali S Taj were the guests of honor
Shalin Shah and Amrita Kaur won top Heritage Awards in high and middle school academic categories. Shah of Santa Margarita also won the top award of $2500 and revolving trophy in the high school category.
The second-place winner in the high school category was Sarth Shah of Trabuco Canyon while the third-place winner was Shilpa Rajagopal of Irvine. The next seven winners were Bhavin Shah of Glendale, Karan Shah of Irvine, Aurnov Chattopadhyay of Irvine, Ramya Natarajan of La Palma, Stuti Grover of Cypress, Vaibhavi Shah of Corona, and Sameer Kejriwal of Redlands.
The second-place winner in the middle school category was Vivek Vijayakumar of San Marcos while the third- place winner was Mohona Ganguly of Cerritos. The next five winners in the middle school category were Pratyush Muthukumar, Amoha Bhale, Shravani Kulkarni, Arush Mehrotra and Jay Kumar. Astha Sahoo and Maya Singh won the Visual and Performing Arts awards instituted in honor of “Teachers, parents and family.”
Second place winner Sarath Shah also won the Outstanding Achievement Award and revolving trophy in sports. Third place winner Shilpa Rajagopal won Outstanding Achievement Award and revolving trophy in Visual & Performing Arts. Fourth place winner Bhavin Shah won Outstanding Achievement Award and revolving trophy in Math, Science and Technology instituted by Dr. Mani Bhaumik in recognition of the “most important numeral ZERO invented in India.” Sasha Singh shared Outstanding Achievement Award and revolving trophy in community service with Shaina Patel. The scholarship winners in the Visual and Performing Arts Category, Shilpa Rajagopal, Astha Sahoo and Maya Singh along with students of Rangashree Dances of India, Shankara Dance Academy and Ishwara Dance Academy presented an entertaining cultural program emceed by Vasu Pawar and Smita Das.
