RIVERSIDE,CA – Around 80 members of the Inland Empire Senior Center gathered at the Lakshmi Narayn Mandir, here on Jan 22 to celebrate Republic Day and the birthday of the members born in Januuary. President Dr. Mahendra Verma kicked of the program with a short introduction on Republic Day saying India was declared a republic on Jan 26, 1950 and the Indian Constitution was introduced to the country on this day.
The hall was decorated with Indian Tricolor flags. Members sang the national anthems of India and the US. This was followed by singing of patriotic songs. Short speeches were delivered on the significance of Republic Day. Freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives were remembered.
Later, aarti was performed. The event ended with seniors taken to the dance floor.
