LONG BEACH, CA - Susen Daniel Memorial Cancer Relief Fund (SDM) had their 29th Annual Banquet on October 4 at the Best Western Golden Sails here which was attended by over 275 guests and raised $29K. Mathew Daniel, Chairman of the Board of Directors, in his welcome speech declared that SDM...
is a charity with only one mission, the mission to help as many poor cancer patients as possible each year and he proudly proclaimed that the mission was accomplished. SDM has now become an organization that helps as many as 180 patients each year in four different hospitals whereas it started with one patient and one hospital in 1985.
He recalled that the organization started when his wife Susen Daniel passed away of cancer in 1985 and thereafter his beloved daughter Sudha also died of cancer in 2002 just before her 34th birthday,
Sudha was a Board member. He started his speech by remembering them with a quote, “You will learn to live with the loss of a loved one but you will never get over it.” He expressed his utmost satisfaction and astonishment of support he received from younger generation, who has almost taken over the organization. He further stated that the success of SDM was not possible without the personal commitment and dedication of all our past and present board members. Welcoming all, he appreciated their presence and donations as well as compassion to the poor. SDM is only a carrier –a carrier that makes free delivery to the right recipient. He appreciated the generosity and kind heartedness of Jay Zaveri who brought 30 members of an organization called Cerritos Royal Group and who donated a Laptop computer as the first prize for the raffle for the evening. He personally acknowledged large donors that included Aavadesh Agarwal, Bryan Hull, and Jane Nayagam. In fact Jane Nayagam who was the youngest board member and currently working for American Express hosted a fund raising dinner in New York.
Abraham Mathew, SDM President thanked all donors and guests for their continued support and he invited them for a mega event next year to mark the 30th Anniversary.
Sajini George, on the SDM Board, in her key note address, appealed to everyone present to donate generously to help poor cancer patients in India. She revealed that perhaps SDM is the only organization with no overheads and 100% of the donations are sent directly to poor cancer patients. For the first time, SDM introduced third generation members Anjali John, Nithya Menon and Vishal Bahuleyan who read out letters received from the poor cancer patients and family members thanking SDM for their support.
A fun filled evening followed with entertainment by Circo Entero and Bollywood dances by Karmagraphy. Five Raffle prizes were given away. MC Reggie engaged the audience from the beginning to end with humor while DJ by Greg Tria provided the music.
Jai Johnson thanked all volunteers and donors and artists.
