IRVINE, CA - A special “kids garba” kicked off the sixth annual Sargam Group Raas-Garba event at University High School here, on Oct.4. Over 1,200 people danced the night away to traditional Gujarati music mixed in with some of the latest Bollywood tunes, performed by Mansukhbhai Ghelani and party.
IRVINE, CA - A special “kids garba” kicked off the sixth annual Sargam Group Raas-Garba event at University High School here, on Oct.4. Over 1,200 people danced the night away to traditional Gujarati music mixed in with some of the latest Bollywood tunes, performed by Mansukhbhai Ghelani and party.
The unique kid friendly garba hour, drew in family and volunteers who taught the little ones the basic steps for raas and garba. Each child who participated received a free gift, and over 275 were distributed this year, pointing toward its popularity. A portrait studio was also set up like every year at no cost to the attendees to create memories with their friends and family. Over 175 families took advantage of this.
Children from ages 10-15 that volunteered their time to run the snack bar which served papdi, batakawada, nachos, and other goodies. The Sargam Group of Southern California was founded six years ago by a group of friends. Their mission is to organize low cost family friendly events that promote Indian culture in the US. The group works closely with a local charity organization, Care for the Cause, and donates a large portion of the proceeds to it. This year’s proceeds have been earmarked for “Choti Si Asha”.
