vast repertoire from peppy feet stomping Bollywood hits to semi classical ghazals and Punjabi folk and love songs. The ease with which she switched between each performance, from Hindi to Punjabi , from fast to slow, from the flippant to soul searching provided the gravitas for the two- hour non-stop performance. It was also an interactive evening in which the artist fully engaged with her fans urging them to sing along with her and keeping them engaged in witty repartee and interesting anecdotes. Clad in a western outfit - a long black dress - with silver stilettos, she wowed the audience. The performance of the evening was hands down, the iconic `Mere Maula.’ Sitting on a chair to sing, the depth of emotion was palpable, with pin drop silence as her voice wafted through the auditorium in this devotional song, an anguished cry to God, revealing her Sufi roots. Opening her heart to her fans she disclosed that this song was very close to her and resonated with her in times of sorrow and joy.
Moving on she performed a semi-classical ghazal `Mere gum jo apko milige..’ bringing to the fore her training in Indian classical music. `Lambi Judai’ was also much appreciated.
Sharma who has 50 super hit tracks and around 700 songs to her credit gave her fans a run for the money going on to perform more popular Bollywood hits with the fans routing for her, some standing and dancing , others clapping and everyone enjoying every bit of it. For some of the high energy numbers she was joined by Paras Maan aka `Punjab ka Sher,’ a finalist in the show `Voice of India’ and Prithvi Gandharva. They brought the house down singing the fan favorite `Mahee Ve,’ followed by Punjabi songs like `Tere bin na lagna dil mera..’.
Others hits performed included `Dil Teri Deewangi Mein’; `Daras Bina Nahin Chain’; ` Mose Naina Milaike.’
Each performance was well supported by the artistry of each musician who made up the band including the guitarists, keyboard players, tabla, drums, bansuri. Earlier in the evening, Maan and Gandharva started off the pre- show with full-powered, high voltage performances of their hits. Mini Guleria, emcee for the evening, welcomed all with Diwali greetings opening the concert with a dance performance on the Diwali theme titled the Diya Dance.
Just ahead of the finale Sharma called on stage the promoters Pal Singh, Harshad Mody, Sultan Allaudin, Mini Guleria, Mohan Singh and others and thanked them for their support. The show was presented by Luxe Events and Saaz Promotions.
With fans routing for more and more, amidst cat calls and whistles, dancing and clapping she ended the show with her hit favorite `Billo Rani,’ and `Damadam Mast Kalandar.’
