Olivia Knox sang the American national anthem while the Indian anthem was sung by Anita and Sunil Pande. A cultural performance directed by Sinduri Jayasinghe, presented on stage by daughter Vinaini and accompanied by musicians from Chennai, India also appealed to the audience.
In the next hour, guests heard several speeches by elected officials including Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Sandra Hutchens and Undersheriff Don Barnes. Praising Sidhu, a Republican, for his right-practices, Hutchens said, “Harry is a good friend; he understands commerce and is very keen on public safety issues. Thus he is the right candidate for the post. I would ask you all to support him for Anaheim Mayor 2018.” She was supported well in her appeals by Barnes.
Kewal Kanda, Founder of Global Organization of People of India gave a brief address on Indo-US history and current day partnerships. He concluded by saying, “Today under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has become a strong and strategic partner of the US and there is much more room to grow together in the future.”
KV Kumar then acknowledged Sidhu’s work and presence in Anaheim, saying. “I am very proud to be an Indian-American. Harry we love you and want to see you as a mayor in 2018.” Other prominent guests at the event included Irvine Mayor Don Wagner, Former Anaheim Councilwomen Gail Eastman and Shirley McCracken, and Assistant City Manager Kristine Ridge.
Finally, recognizing emcee, speakers and performers , Sidhu thanked all for taking time out on a ‘lazy’ Sunday afternoon. He also expressed gratitude to his wife Gin and ailing mother-in-law Harbhajan Bansal for being his support system.
Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, he noted, “A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people.” He added, “As a longtime business owner and public servant, I am deeply committed to meeting the needs of our community and developing beneficial opportunities through innovative problem-solving and experienced, common sense leadership.”
In closing, Sidhu mentioned, “In the spirit of unity, there is strength, and the light of unity is so powerful , it can light the entire world. Always, remember that by working together, we can make a meaningful difference throughout the world. That’s why I’m running for Mayor – `Together We Can Make Anaheim Shine.’” He also hoped to see his supporters voting for him for the upcoming Anaheim mayoral election set for November 6, 2018. Another prominent highlight of the afternoon was a powerful healing session by disciples of Nithyananda from Montclair temple. The event ended with a lunch buffet offered to all.
