millions of families have been affected, the worst the Himalayan country has experienced in 80 years.
Chief Guest at the fundraiser was Ambassador of Nepal to the US Dr. Arjun K. Karki. Nepali Consul General in San Diego, Rishi Dhakal and Consul General in Los Angeles George M. Pappas, were present as special guests.
During his presentation Dr. Nitin Shah said $81,173 in donations has been dispersed by the Jain Center of Southern California (JCSC) to the following: $41,173 to Shree Pashupatinath Foundation, $15,000 to Action Works Nepal, $15,000 to Veerayata and $10,000 to Akshay Patra Foundation. He also said the following funds will be disbursed soon: $10,000 to Prime Minister’s Funds, $10,000 Giants Mumbai, $10,000 Bidada Sarvodaya Trust and $5,000 Ekal Vidalaya. The total from JCSC would be $116,173. Later an activities report was presented by SoCal Nepal Earthquake Relief Committee member Rajendra Siwakoti. He said under Phase I, 1,523 tents costing $18,173 was brought from China, which was sponsored by the JCSC and 500 Tripal were brought from India. He said under Phase II, 1,000 food packets containing rice, dal, salt, oil,and other commodities, medicines were distributed at a cost of $24,416.
After the presentation, volunteers who traveled to Nepal were honored by Ambassador Dr. Arjun K. Karki. Music and dance kept the audience entertained. The evening stated with dinner sponsored by the Tarsadia Foundation.
