The star of the show, Dr Mamta Joshi, a PhD in India classical vocal music took the stage. The versatile Joshi has achieved excellence in the realm of folk, classical and Sufiana music in academics and performances. She attained proficiency in Khyal, Tappa and Thumri gayan in classical and literary poetry Ghazal, Sufiana and cultivated her musical traits to embellish Western fusion with Indian Classical music. The show aptly called Awaz-e –Sufi consisted of traditional folk Punjabi and Sufi music. The guests enjoyed some Indian delicacies for dinner while the music filled the air. Joshi sang well known folk songs like ‘Jugni’, ‘Tumba Meri jaan’, ‘Balle Balle’, ‘Rail Gaddi’ and occasionally took a break to connect with the audience. The songs were very well received with whistles, claps and appreciation from the guests. Women took to the stage and danced away until midnight. Those who were not dancing sang along the flavorful songs with glee. One could see some guests getting nostalgic about home and India amidst the stories and the music. The night was organized by Sahab Singh Bhullar, Narender Dhillon and Baldev Singh and was supported by Paramjit Singh Nijjar, N. Singh Bhullar, Iqbal Singh Samra, Ravi Grewal and Billoo Samra. All in all, the night carried a full flavor of Punjabi culture and the rural way of life.
