on stage to perform an aarti to Krishna, portrayed by Gaurav Mehmi along with some of the performers. As the story began to unfold, the aarti thali was passed around to the audience members for asharvad. Significant moments that were brought to life were the marriage of Devki and Vasudeva, the prophecy of the eighth child, Kans imprisoning his father. The murder of Devki and Vasudeva’s every child was a poignant moment and the switch of Devki’s son with Yashoda’s daughter. Celebrations of Krishna’s birth was a joyous event. Other momentous scenes were Krishna defeating every demon that Kans sends his way, and lifting the Govardhan mountain with just one finger breaking Indra’s ego. Other scenes included a colorful Raas Leela, Kans invitation of Krishna to Mathura, Krishna learning the truth, Krishna defeating Channur as well as Balram defeating Mustik, and finally how Krishna defeated Kans.
All of these important moments were wonderfully depicted by the actors who portrayed those roles. Every actor portraying a character had multiple roles to play.
Audience members attentively watched as each story in Krishna’s life was presented to them. At the end of the play when Krishna defeated Kans, the audience members clapped and cheered in excitement that good finally triumphed over evil.
Bollywood Entertainment owned by Jaswant Mehmi was the company who put on the play. Written by Jai Prakash Bhatt, directed by Rajiv Mehta, and produced by Kamlesh Chander Mehta. The actors were Devki and Radha (Deepti Arora), Vasudeva (Munish Kapoor), Uggarsen (Ramesh Bhardwaj), Kans (Sunny Sandhu), Yashoda (Asha Saklani), Nand (Rajiv Mehta), Krishna (Manish Kapoor), Balram (JaswantMehmi), Channur (Yogesh Arora), and Akrur (Gaurav Sharma). “Without the generous financial support of the sponsors this event would not have been possible,” said Jagdish Purohit, President of the Indo American Senior Heritage.
