ARTESIA, CA – The International Street Fair was celebrated in the heart of ‘Little India’ on Pioneer Blvd here on October 4 to rejoice in the diversity of America. The fair was organized by the City of Artesia and Artesia Chamber of Commerce with the active support of local business owners and the residents.
ARTESIA, CA – The International Street Fair was celebrated in the heart of ‘Little India’ on Pioneer Blvd here on October 4 to rejoice in the diversity of America. The fair was organized by the City of Artesia and Artesia Chamber of Commerce with the active support of local business owners and the residents.
The celebration continued the whole day, starting from 11 am till 10 pm and it showcased the dance and culture of 20 different ethnicities including Indian, Filipino, Chinese, Mexican, Venezuelan, Brazilian, Japanese, African, Thai, and many others. The event started with the US national anthem followed by Artesia Mayor Tony Lima’s address who said, “This is a signature event that we are going to keep going into perpetuity. The idea behind the celebrations is to celebrate the culture and traditions of the different ethnicities residing in the Artesia. Artesia is a growing city and we invite all different cultures residing here to come forward and grow with us”.
President of Artesia Chamber of Commerce, Parimal Shah, while talking to IJ said it was the first ever event of this kind organized by the city and the chamber with the aim of promoting business in the city. He said the diversity festival proved to be the perfect opportunity to enjoy different foods and dances and to strengthen social ties with neighbors.Among the most popular acts were the African dances, the Chinese dragon dance, the Rubber Sounds Band, and The Bone Masons band which represented different genres of American music like funk, blues, and rock and roll. About 17 food vendors represented various cultures as well, as Indian, Chinese, Korean, and American food. The Kid Zone was a hit, with rock climbing, jumpers, face painting, a petting zoo, and pony rides.
