RIVERSIDE, CA - The India Association of Inland Empire (IAIE) celebrated India’s 68th Independence Day on Aug 16 at Cal Baptist University, here. The event was attended by a few hundred people from Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The function began with the rendering of the US and Indian national anthems. The cultural program featured classical and film dances by children and patriotic songs by adults.
The function was graced by Congressman Mark Takno; Prof. Bir Bhanu, University of California, Riverside; City Councilman Paul Davis; Riverside Lunar festival chair May Davis; and Dr. Imran Angelo Farooq, Director, Center for Economic Development and Innovation, UCR. Several of them gave congratulatory speeches. The event was organized by IAIE’s current board members Dr. Roop Goyal, President; Dr. Bhaviesh Shah, Vice-president; Chandrasekar Venkatraman, Treasurer; and Deval Shah, Secretary. New India Sweets and Spices, Riverside catered for the event.
