BUENA PARK, CA – ‘Chaalo Gujarat’ an evening featuring Gujarati geet, ghazal and folk songs was held by the Anekant Community Center at the Jain Center of Southern California here, on Nov.15 and attended by over 300 people. Featured artists from the Bay area, were Tahuko.com fame Jayshree Bhakta and Hetal Brahmbhatt,
Aanal Anjaria, Achal Anjaria, and Vijay Bhatt. They were accompanied by Vikas Salvi on keyboard, Hemant Ekbote on tabla, Pandit Radha Prasad on flute and Saheb Singh on octopad. The evening featured melodious tunes from yesteryear to more recent Gujarati songs. The theme of courtship and love were common in songs, Tari Ankh no Afini , He Tane Jata Joi Panghatni Vaate Maru Man Mohi Gayu. Popular songs like Chelaji Rey Maare Haatu Patan Thi Patola Mongha Laavjo and Pankhida Ne Aa Pinjaru had the audience singing along. Jayshree Bhakta introduced each song with poetry and humor. Many of the songs brought out memories and pride of Gujarati culture as in Ame Amdavadi. Emcee and Secretary of ACC, Viren Shah, commenced the evening with a brief description of the group’s activities while Kantibhai Shah, President and Dr. Nitin Shah, past president of ACC presented the wide range of voluntary service and humanitarian aid that the organization provides. Highlights included providing meals and groceries to local shelters and churches on an ongoing basis and providing academic assistance to students. A big feature of ACC’s activities are the free medical camps around Southern California as well as in India, Zambia, South Africa, Jamaica and other countries from which thousands have benefitted.
