breathing oxygen. The movie depicts a charismatic but lonely individual who has been separated from his real family. He ultimately begins to build a relationship with a set of paid actors depicting his parents, son, brother, sister and grandson. The audience experienced his emotional rollercoaster first being separated from his real family but later experiencing an even stronger bond with the set of actors.
Given the growing baby boomer generation, and many families separated by geography or circumstances, members in the audience felt an emotional connection to the protagonist who sought a family unit. The audience didn’t break during intermission, wanting to finish the movie in its entirety. By the end of the film, there was not a dry eye in the theater. Feedback following the movie was very positive with many wanting to share the story with their friends and relatives.
At a limited screening earlier in the year at the Jain Center of Southern California, three families who viewed the movie were so touched by the message that, they came forward and donated the North American movie rights to the Gujarati Society of Southern California. These donors were Bhikhubhai & Pushpaben Patel of Tarsadia Foundation, Manubhai & Raxaben Shah of Sarva Mangal Trust and Maheshbhai & Ushaben Wadher.
Manubhai said, “Oxygen is a great story of what this world needs - emotional support of all humans by adding some more oxygen in relationships - caring - by providing more oxygen even to knowns. Sarva Mangal Family Trust is a big believer in helping the unknowns. This movie will carry the message deeper and farther.”
Following the movie, Hema Chauhan, GSSC Joint Secretary, thanked the audience for its support of the GSSC over the last two years and announced the upcoming Kite Festival on January 13 at Cerritos Park. The movie is available for screening to any organization in the US at no cost and interested party can contact Jawahar Shah GSSC, Secretary.
