IRVINE, CA - The ten day Ganesha Chaturthi festival was celebrated at the Mandir here, with guests and culminated in a grand send off for the God. The Ganesh Visarjan coordinated by Avinash Bajaj of Cruises inc. had a 85 feet yacht at Newport Beach that was filled with devotees who started arriving at the site after attending the puja at the temple. Soft Ganesh bhajans played as they boarded the boat.
The water procession started at around 1:30 pm. Once on the ocean, the captain signaled for everyone to come down to the lower deck for the ceremony. The yacht was brought to a complete stop, so that everyone could perform as well as witness the ceremony. The event lasted two hours. Accompanied by chants of “Ganapati Bappa Morya-Mangal Murti Morya” families were allowed to take their own mini-idols - which were all pre-approved and made of completely biodegradable materials - and immerse them in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. The temple management represented by Vishwanath Tiwari concluded the event by thanking the devotees for their commitment.
