had 17 singers and three celebrity singers perform. The show opened with an inter-religious prayer of invocation. A tribute to India’s former President Dr. Abdul Kalam was paid by observing a one minute silence as the audience arose to remember this great son of India Emcee for the evening Sailesh Shah introduced Sur Mandir describing it as a not-for-profit music group which aims at promoting music and local talent. Shah kept the program flowing smoothly and was to the point and informative.
Celebrity singers Hanif Noormohamed, Seema Hanamsagar and Nauzad Sadry kept the audience entertained throughout the evening. One of the highlights was a ‘Jugalbandi ‘ between Hanif Noormohamed vocal and on the tabla Nawaz Deepak Chandla. Seema Hanamsagar’s classical rendition was par excellent.
The ‘Raj Kapoor Medley’, a tribute to the greatest showman on earth was a group hit with the audience. Soham Shah (15) and Anjal Jain (11) performed a classical duet ‘Kuhu Kuhu Bole Koyalia’ to near perfection.
The singers who performed were Vivek Thyagarajan, Govind Damani, Saumik Saha, Anshu Jain, Soham Shah, Sunil Oza, Viabhav Ekbote, Vicky Walia, Sujay Paranjpe, Saikat Chakraborty, Priya Paranjpe, Sujatha Padmanabhan, Anjal Jain, Asit Vyas, Shruti Balakrishnan, Shaila Patankar, Akshay Kulkarni, They were selected at an pre-show audition by a group of judges who included Hanif Noormohamed, Seema Hanamsagar, Usha Sathe, Chandrashekhar Sathe, Nauzad Sadry, Dipali Singh, and Vishal Vij
Vivek Thyagarajan, Govind Damani, Saumik Saha, Anshu Jain were selected by the judges for the making of Sur Mandir’s Music Video Album. Trophies and plaques were presented to recognize the judges and performing artistes.
The evening ended with the finale ‘Chalte Chalte…Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna.’ But the audience was very reluctant to leave and asked for more. But all good things come to an end and the show wrapped up on a positive note.
The efforts of the sound and special effects team including Rahul Parikh, Ramesh Ramnani and Vijay Patil, went a long way in enhancing the show. Delicious food was served by ‘Mumbai Ki Galliyon Se ‘ Restaurant.
