ORANGE, CA – EducateAKid Scholarship program, a charity initiative by Organization of Hindu Malayalees (OHM), had their Diwali themed Annual Banquet on November 1 at the Tandoor Cuisine of India here, which was attended by over 250 guests and raised $32K. EducateAKid is a scholarship program designed to help underprivileged young men and women who have entered higher learning institutions in India.
Sajan Pillai, CEO of UST Global, and a supporter of this scholarship program ever since its inception, in his keynote speech, spoke about the value of social work and this scholarship program, and also presented information on corporate programs that focus on social responsibility.
KP Hari, Managing Partner of Speridian Inc, who provided invaluable support for this program for years, made a heart-felt appeal promoting the program. He spoke of real life examples of how such assistance to deserving financially challenged students could make a world of a difference for them and their families.
Murali Nair of USC School of Social Work, brought attention of the audience to the value of social work with a very insightful speech, that drew from his vast research on related areas, as well as from his personal experience.
Earlier, in his Welcome address, OHM Board member and EducateAKid chairman Jayachandran Nair thanked everyone including sponsors and donors for attending, and for helping some very deserving students in their quest for higher education. He praised the vision and dedication of all those who created and supported the program over the years. Being an entirely volunteer run non-profit charity, no overheads or cost is added, therefore all funds raised go into the program.
UST Global and Speridian Inc were the grand sponsors of this event, along with Drs. Shyam Kishan and Sharmilla of Indiana.
OHM President Baburaj, along with Senior Director, Ravi Vellatheri Menon presented plaques to the grand sponsors. A short film made by Dipu Mannar and Suresh Babu was presented that recalled both the need for support for education, and statements from various personalities who made EducateAKid a reality. As part of the entertainment various dancers added flavor to the evening, along with Music by DJ Anthony and Brian, with MC Reggie keeping the audience engaged from the beginning to end. EAK Youth Volunteers read a Diwali message and letters from various students who received scholarship, and from their advisors.
Secretary of OHM, Vinodh Bahulayan, gave the vote of thanks appreciating the efforts of volunteers, sponsors and donors.
