City of Artesia took to the stage for the lamp lighting ceremony. Artesia Mayor Pro Tem Tony Lima and Councilman Ali Sajjad Taj, represented the City of Artesia and participated in the lamp lighting ceremony.
“Diwali is like Christmas. It is a time to get together with families and friends and tell stories,” said Lima.
Certificates of Recognition were distributed to the FIA members from the offices of Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia and Congressman Lou Correa. Correa addressing the gathering wished all in attendance and requested that they vote for him in the upcoming elections.
Deedwania addressing the audience conveyed Diwali greetings to all present and expressed gratitude to all who facilitated in making the event a success. He thanked Sneh Mishra, Bani Mukherji, and Charu Shivakumar on the cultural committee for putting together the entertainment segment. People ranging in age displayed their talents in a series of dance and music cultural performances. A musical performance was presented by Bollywood singer Siddhant Bhosle, son of Sudesh Bhosle, who sang a few well- known Bollywood tracks. A contestant from the Voice of India, an Indian singing reality TV show, Sumitra Iyer then came on stage to sing an assortment of tracks. The hit songs from popular Hindi films and Punjabi movies like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, and Laung Laachi to name a few were hits.
Siddhant Bhosle came back on stage to rock the remainder of the night with hits from different decades.
About halfway into his first song, Gallan Goodiyan, people could not contain themselves and started to dance in front of the stage and near their seats. Bhosle also sang Baar Baar Dekho and Eena Meena Deeka to name a few more. The energy which exuded from Bhosle and those dancing seemed to bounce off one another, as they seemed to be giving each other the energy to continue. Then on request Bhosle sang newer songs like Kala Chashma, Kar Gayi Chull, London Thumakda, and many more well-known tracks.
While Bhosle was singing, Iyer came on stage to dance with him and joined in the singing as well. Together they sang a variety of tracks. Some audience members started doing garba. Chogada, Sari Ke Fall Sa, and many more songs were sung by both performers. Bounce houses at the entrance of the park kept kids engaged. Additionally, booths surrounded the perimeter of the park vending food, clothing, jewelry, services, by vendors from nearby cities.
