Culture Showcased At IASC Event

IRVINE, CA - Residents of Irvine came together at the Shrinathji Haveli here on Jan 26 to celebrate India’s 70th Republic Day hosted by the India Association of Southern California (IASC). Guests showed up in their best orange, white, and green outfits to honor a significant day in India’s history. Starting the festivities off with pomp,

no stone was left unturned to celebrate the Day. The hall in the Shrinathji Haveli was brightly decorated bringing to life the tri colors of the Indian flag. The program began with  attendees participating in a parade style tribute to honor the day. All children  were given Indian and American flags which they waved  as they marched, joined by  adults who also waved flags, chanted and recited Vande Mataram and Jai Jind as `Aao Bacho Tumhe Dikhaye Jhankhi Hindustan Ki’ played as the background track.
Mayor of Irvine, Donald P. Wagner, the Guest of Honor was welcomed on arrival by IASC Founder Kamimi Khare.
IASC President Atul Makwana and his wife Dipal Makwana, requested all  committee members to come on stage. 
Prakash Pancholi, incharge of Public Relations, came on stage and recited a divine and peaceful shloka . Makwana invited all the committee members and State Bank of India, California, Manager, Promod Tewari, to the stage for the grand opening of the program which kicked off with the singing of the American and Indian national anthems. “We are coming together to celebrate the world’s largest democracy,” said Wagner. The Mayor continued by wishing everyone and stated a few facts about Irvine. “Happy Republic Day. Let’s have great fun on this wonderful evening,” said Wagner.
With the help of Mayor Wagner, IASC recognized community members  who have  supported the organization as well as served the community. Jai Paul and Madhu Prabha Thakur were presented the Jai Hind  Award for serving the community for 25 years in Orange county.  Shresh and Nalini Bhatti were also given the Jai Hind Award  for their community support.  Ravjibhai Patel and his wife Dr. Hansa  Patel were presented with the Star of India Award . Dr. Krishna Reddy was given the Shining Star of India Award. Makwana then introduced Sabari Girish and his daughter Keerthana Girish who came to the stage to sing a few patriotic songs to entertain the audience. Talented local children took to the stage taking turns demonstrating their incredible and adorable skills through their performances. Dinner was served  as the audience was kept entertained .
Event chairperson Radhika  Patel along with  Indu Sharma conducted a raffle. 
Local  businesses had  booths to promote their business to attendees who visited the booths.
