CHINO HILLS,CA- Around of 890 community members who supported the annual BAPS Charities’ Walk Green 2017 walkathon here on May 20. Building off an existing relationship with The Nature Conservancy’, this year’s walkathon had participants of all ages come out and support the Nature Conservancs ‘Plant a Billion Trees’ campaign. The efforts focus on protecting habitats and preserving biodiversity across the world.
Its current campaign aims to plant one billion trees by 2025 to which BAPS Charities contributed $100,000 to plant 70,000 trees in 2016. In addition to targeted conservation efforts, The Nature Conservancy also invests in research related to conservation and climate change to drive international efforts.
Phillip Chen, California State Assemblyman for the 55th District noted, “This Walkathon is an amazing event and I am very impressed. BAPS Charities is a cultural epicenter that has played a very important part in making sure that we have the vital resources to educate the community on efforts to go green, plant trees, and learn of ways to reduce our carbon footprint. I’m really proud to be part of this event.” Chino Hills Mayor Ray Marquez and city councilmember Art Bennet were also present.
Additionally, with a firm belief to think globally, act locally, this year’s walkathon also supported the Chino Valley Fire District which aims to provide exceptional service and safeguard the community. It began in 1895 and has since grown to include seven fire stations, housing over 100 professional firefighters.
