“All five of your council members are out here to show solidarity with the Nepalese community, and we are here to help you.” Canales talked about the City’s partnership with the American Red Cross, and spoke of the dire need for funds and tents.
Also in attendance was the Honorary Consul of Nepal Rishi Dhakal, who thanked Artesia’s mayor for organizing this event and thanked all the council for its support. Nepalese Community Leader Bhakta Chapa and others also spoke. Prayers were led and words of compassion were given. A few stayed on through the night to continue the vigil.
Artesia is one of only a few communities who hosted a candlelight vigil for the Nepal earthquake victims. To donate money or tents which are urgently needed , visit http://familylinks.icrc.org/nepal-earthquake .
