LOS ANGELES, CA – In a diplomatic blitzkrieg, India’s new envoy to Washington, Harsh V Shringla, swept through greater Los Angeles meeting and greeting officials in politics, policy and industry. Sanjay Panda, on April 26, he met with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. Shringla said that Garcetti was likely to head a trade delegation to India soon and that would add to the importance of the relationship of the city with India. Also, in the offing might be the opening of a tourism office in India. There were meetings also with Rand Corporation CEO Michael D. Rich and the research team there. With the growing ties between Bollywood and Hollywood, he also stopped at the Paramount Studios and met with management there.
AECOM, the Los Angeles based engineering firm that provides design, consulting, construction, and management services and is invested heavily in India also spent time with the envoy.
Former Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs in the Obama administration and currently the President of the U.S-India Business Council, Nisha Biswal led a roundtable discussion under the auspices of the organization and also accompanied the Ambassador in his various meetings.
Speaking at an intimate brunch hosted by Dr.A.S.Marwah at his Malibu ranch home, on April 27, Shringla lauded the role of the host in boosting relations between India and the US over the decades - from the time of Dalip Singh Saund till today. He said it was fitting that the city of Hollywood had decided to name a Square after the 93-year-old Indian-American.
Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA30) who was present was also praised lavishly, with the diplomat saying that Sherman’s office was the first point of contact for the Embassy when there was any need in terms of Indo-US relations, as was the case in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack.
The envoy of course had words of praise for the community at the brunch and later at the dinner that was co-hosted in Granada Hills by Sherman and him, saying that they were, “an inspiration” to all in India.

GRANADA HILLS - On the evening of April 27 Ambassador Harsh V Shringla hosted a reception for the community based in Southern California along with Congressman Brad Sherman, co-Chair of the House India Caucus and Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific. The event was attended by over 120 members including Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu.
In his address, the Ambassador lauded the contribution of the Indian diaspora to the flagship programs of the Government of India, including Digital India and Make in India. He also spoke forcefully about the Pulwama attacks saying that India will do everything it needs for national security. He was also optimistic about the growth of the Indian economy saying that India was expected to become the world’s fifth largest economy. Consul General Sanjay Panda addressed the issue that is always on top of the SoCal community - passport and visa clearances – and he provided the assurance that a camp will be held in the region once every three months.
Sherman touched on a number of subjects and held out the promise that if the US India Enhanced Co-operation Act were to pass in Congress, a number of things would come together for the two nations, including military cooperation, maritime security and humanitarian assistance.
