Pioneer Blvd in ‘Little India’ and was hosted by City Mayor Sajjad Ali Taj, Annie Lam and Dr Kusum Rafiquzzaman; co hosted by Parveen Hussain, Pamela and Aaruni Thakur and was hugely supported by California Assembly speaker Anthony Rendon and Assembly member Cristina Garcia.
Commencing the program, Ali Taj extended huge support to his ``dear friend’’ Kalra and said, “Please support Ash for California State Assembly; contributions are gratefully accepted at the door or at www.ashkalra.com/Artesia.”
Taj also acknowledged City of Sierra Madera Mayor Rachelle Arizmendi and her support for the fundraiser.
Interests were piqued and active donations were raised by the nearly 100 attendees.
Appealing to those present, Garcia stated, “Ash makes sure that his allies and friends are on the same page, he takes care of his own in the Assembly and his district. Today, the amazing Indian-American community more than ever needs people like Kalra who understand both culture and diversity, thus making him popular and in demand.”
In Kalra’s support, Rendon added, “I was excited to come today. Ash knows what is best for his district. He is a responsible citizen who is not just political but is also a good friend. He is a real person, is interested in community and understands all subjects nicely, believes in teamwork and credibility. I can vouch for Ash and can say that he is one person whom you can trust with an open heart. We are so proud of him.” Rendon also thanked Ash’s mother Kusum Rafiquzzaman for being Kalra’s support system, who in turn thanked supporters for reaching out to her son’s fundraising event. Taking centerstage, Ash thanked his followers for the overwhelming contribution and laid out his agenda directed towards Indian-Americans and their prosperity. Talking about his district, Kalra pointed out to his works and actions in the past and asked people to support him wholeheartedly. His issues ranged from environment preservation to quality education and creating more jobs, keeping the community safe and preventing hate crimes. “San Jose is my home for over 37 years and in that time, I have developed a passion for serving my neighbors and making sure that our government is solving problems – not creating them. I have always fought against cuts to public safety and worked to provide incentives for companies to locate and grow in San Jose. I have been a voice for public safety, better schools, improved public transportation and a healthier environment. So support me in my cause to serve my community and country,” he urged.
