BANGALORE - Infosys president and board member B.G. Srinivas has resigned, the IT bellwether said May 29. “The resignation of Srinivas will be effective June 10,” the global software major said in a terse statement here. Srinivas was one of the front-runners for the post of the chief executive of the troubled company after incumbent S.D. Shibulal exited in January.
“Srinivas has been an integral part of Infosys and has played an important role in the company’s growth. The board and every Infoscion thank him for his wonderful contribution and wish him great success in his future endeavors,” Infosys co-founder and executive chairman N.R. Narayana Murthy said in the statement. The board of directors placed on record its deep sense of appreciation for the services rendered by Srinivas during his tenure as member and for his contribution to the company.
“I thank Infosys for the wonderful opportunity given to me. My tenure at the company has been one of my most rewarding experiences, and I am proud to have contributed to the best growth story in the industry,” Srinivas said.
Srinivas will soon join PCCW Ltd, a Hong Kong-based firm, with interests in telecom, media, IT solutions, property development and investment. “We are pleased to announce the appointment of Srinivas Bangalore Gangaiah as our group managing director with effect from July 14,” PCCW Ltd said in a statement from Hong Kong May 29.
At PCCW, he will succeed George Chan, who retires from the PCCW group’s executive post on completion of his contract with the company July 7. ”On behalf of the board of directors, I warmly welcome Srinivas. I am confident that his immense IT knowledge, experience in service-oriented organisations, leadership skills and international perspective will provide our goup with additional momentum,” PCCW chairman Richard Li said in the statement. Srinivas is expected to develop PCCW’s media and IT business locally and internationally. “Prior to his agreeing to serve as our group managing director, Srinivas worked for the last 15 years with Infosys. He also held several leadership roles at ABB, the Swiss multinational group before joining Infosys in 1999,” the statement added. PCCW holds a majority interest in HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecom service provider.
The group also owns an integrated multimedia and entertainment group in Hong Kong—PCCW Media Ltd, which operates now TV, an IPTV operation. As the provider of Hong Kong’s first quadruple-play experience, PCCW offers a range of innovative media content and services across four delivery platforms—fixed-line, broadband Internet access, TV and mobile.
