Balki is happy that his film "Pad Man" won the National Film Award for Best Film On Social Issue because, more than just a critical achievement, the honour indicates the start of a conversation on menstrual hygiene. This, Balki, believes, was the dream of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man whose life inspired the film.

"For me, the biggest validation is the film has worked as a conversation starter worldwide. Menstruation hygiene is a topic that has not been addressed in the mainstream cinema around the world. Our film is the first one. Of course, a National Award is an honour for all of us, but the happiness lies in the fact that the film has served its purpose of creating awareness. Men and women have started talking about sanitary pads on public platforms, and that has not happened before," Balki told IANS.
He added that the award truly belongs to Muruganantham.
"The first thought that came to my mind (on hearing the news of the victory) was that this National Award belongs to Muruganantham. This is the first time in the history of cinema that a feature film has been made on menstrual hygiene, but the whole journey started with his work. So, I have to say the whole credit goes to him. Yes, we worked on the film, but it was Muruganantham's thoughts and journey (that inspired the film). He is a man with an extraordinary thought. He is an inspiration," said Balki. The film used a fictitious protagonist names Laxmikant, played by Akshay Kumar, to capture the journey of Muruganantham, who introduced low-cost sanitary pads in Tamil Nadu, especially to women who were unable to access sanitary pads owing to expenses and social taboo regarding menstruation.
"Pad Man" featured Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor, and released on February 9 last year and was a success. The film later released worldwide, in countries including China and Russia. The film was based on the short story, "The Sanitary Man Of Sacred Land", written by Twinkle Khanna, who was also the producer of the film.
Being the writer-director of the film, Balki shared: "I would rather say that this kind of film could have not done justice to its subject, if it would have just remained a successful film at the box office or at an award ceremony. We wanted to create a change, and that is why I am proud of the film as a director."
Balki has spoken to Muruganantham after the announcement of the National Film Award and according to him, "he (Muruganantham) is overjoyed, he is very glad. He was now saying the film has started a conversation and awareness, and everywhere he travels, he gets to hear how the film has created an impact on people and opened up conversation at the grassroot level".

"I feel Sabbir Khan who is the director of the film is presenting me in a different manner so, I am really excited for it," Shilpa added.
Asked Shilpa how it feels to return after 13 years, she said: "I think once an actor always an actor, and once you taste the blood you cannot stay away from it for a long time."
Although she was out of the big-screen scenario, Shilpa has never stayed outside the limelight. She regularly posts "Swasth Raho Mast Raho" recipes on the fitness app she has created.
"Yoga and fitness have become a part of my life. I don't need to make an effort to do it. I think these things are important for self-preservation. I prescribe and subscribe to yoga because it's a holistic way of improving your mental and physical health," said Shilpa, while interacting with the media at the launch of India's first Apple premium reseller flagship store, Aptronix, in Mumbai.
"Nikamma" is scheduled for release in summer 2020.

Pritam, who earlier collaborated with Imtiaz Ali for films such as "Jab We Met" and "Love Aaj Kal", again collaborates with the filmmaker for the upcoming "Aajkal", featuring Kartik Aryan and Sara Ali Khan. He is also working with the "Barfi!" maker Anurag Basu for his upcoming film. Pritam and Basu go back a long way, from the time the filmmaker directed "Gangster" in 2006. They have worked in films such as "Life In A Metro" and "Jagga Jasoos", too. For "Brahmastra", starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, the composer collaborates with new-age filmmaker Ayan Mukerji. He had scored the music for Mukerji's 2013 hit, "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani".
Pritam is also gearing up for "83", directed by Kabir Khan. He had worked with Kabir in the Salman Khan blockbuster "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" in 2015.

"Since the time we get into the business, we develop a relationship with journalists. During film promotions, we spend a lot of time giving interviews and that way we share a friendly relationship. Friendship, however, should not be misunderstood because many times an actor is gets misquoted. I just hope a good relationship is maintained because many times the reputation of people gets affected. So, the media should be responsible about these matters," added the actress who will soon to be seen opposite Sidharth in "Jabariya Jodi".
Actress Adah Sharma said although she often gets trolled for her experimental looks, she has mostly elicited a positive response from the media. "The relation between actors and the media is based on professionalism and mutual respect. When I am putting out my work in the public domain I should be prepared for positive as well as negative feedback. I do not take criticism personally. However, there is a distinction between criticism and bullying. The later is more of personal attack, which should never be encouraged," Adah told IANS.
