ARTESIA, CA - Bhindi Jewellers held a painting demonstration celebrating the new colors of Lladro, on April 23 at the recently upgraded showroom here. Rosa Maria Lopez-Saez was the Lladro decoration artist who displayed her skill and artistry as she painted statues of Indian gods and goddesses, including the new goddess...
Born in 963, at a young age she was selected to enter Lladró, thanks to her good skills at painting. At the beginning she worked in different departments of Lladró workshops, what allowed her to acquire a wide knowledge of the whole process. After these experiences, she has always been linked to the decoration of sculptures, becoming the person in charge of the training in decoration with different techniques. A truly enriching experience, she states.
For Rosa, the process of instilling life to porcelain sculptures through paint and decoration is beyond doubt the most gratifying task. Rosa feels really lucky to belong to a profession she enjoys and describes it as complex and exciting as painting a picture, which is her favorite hobby.
She loves the idea of participating in the process of adding richness to colorless figurines and, at the end, to watch the result of her work - : pieces coming out of the kiln showing their true colors and nuances. Rosa remarks that pieces can be ruined if the painter miscalculates the exact quantity of glazes that need to be applied to achieve the desired decorative effect. She states that this is not mechanic work, but one that requires very good taste, special skill and great amounts of sensitivity. For Rosa, perfection is only achievable through experience, which provides the painter with the confidence to know how to mix glazes and colors, and how to apply them with precision on the piece. Rosa has held public demonstrations of painting in Taiwan, Korea and Malaysia.
