downtown Westin Bonaventure Hotel here August 7 through 13, provided a unique opportunity for spiritual communion and practical instruction for attendees hailing from the United States to Congo to Brazil to India. The activities included a mix of “How-to-Live” classes, kirtans, group meditations, spiritual counsel, and a chance to connect with like-minded peers.
The teachings of SRF founder Paramahansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’ and subject of the award-winning film ‘AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda’, have inspired many through the years to approach life with a sense of calm and peace to help them better achieve personal, professional, and spiritual goals. During evening talks, SRF monastics explored different topics from Yogananda’s teachings and their application in daily life.
Attendees who had traveled from outside the local region to attend the 2016 SRF Convocation were given the opportunity to participate in pilgrimage tours to several of the temples and sanctuaries established by Paramahansa Yogananda in Southern California, including the SRF Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades and the SRF Retreat and Hermitage in Encinitas, where Yogananda wrote most of his ‘Autobiography of a Yogi.’
