The preparations for the birthday of the beloved Lord Ganesh began early at the Mandir, here, with almost 60 kids making clay idols of the deity. After careful review of the planetary positions, three learned priests commenced the celebratory installation of a large Ganesh idol, donated by JayKishanji and Gunjanji Sambhwani, on Sept. 12 attended by about 250 ardent devotees. The priests dutifully carried out the customary traditional rituals and were joined by many families. All the legendary mythological stories clearly stress that Ganesh signifies budhhi, intelligence. On Sept. 13 400 devotees availed of darshan and offered puja. A grand disciplined hour long Ganesh-Saraswati puja on Sept. 15th organized by SoCal Ayyappa Sangam was attended by about 120 kids along with their parents.
A few highlights were the bursting of special ‘crackers’ indoors by kids and a touching donation of a 10 cent coin by a child from her savings. All served mahaprasad and gifted a booklet on Dharma.
