CERRITOS, CA - The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Southern California welcomed Neel Kashkari at a special event hosted at the Sheraton here on May 14. Kashkari is running for Governor of California. The event was opened by Toni DasGupta, TiE So Cal President, who welcomed attendees.
Kashkari’s message to youth was - Study hard, get a good education, and work hard. He personifies the typical American dream – a son of immigrants who got a good education, and resolved to give back by working to improve the system. He challenged the youth to aim for their passion, and have the courage to break with tradition to follow their dreams. Kashkari spent his childhood in Akron, Ohio growing up in a working middle class family. His parents inculcated academia and science in him at an early age. His father was a professor and his mother a pathologist. His quantitative ability was in evidence during TARP program at the US Treasury Department, and his work in the private sector at Goldman Sachs and PIMCO .He indicated that students need to develop well rounded quantitative and qualitative skills to take on leadership roles. His message was concise - I do not have a fix for every problem; but I will work on them if they are important enough. Kashkari is passionate about California and restoring its former glory. While he admits some things are broken in the system such as regulation, bureaucracy and shift of manufacturing, he feels they are things that can be fixed. Kashkari has had an illustrious career with Goldman Sachs, and more recently at PIMCO. But his defining moments came as he led the TARP program in 2008 as the country was perched over a financial cliff.
The evening ended with thanking Kashkari and presenting him with a memento of appreciation from TiE Southern California.
