On the sidelines of the convention an Indian-American Caucus mixer was held on May 16 at Morton’s Steakhouse in Anaheim.
Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Santa Ana) kicked off the mixer but during the address made a controversial gaffe for which she has drawn a lot of flak.
Also present at the mixer were State Assembly Candidates Rajiv Dalal and Ash Kalra. Both addressed the caucus, giving perspectives of why they are each running for state Assembly. Congressman Ami Bera was scheduled to attend the mixer but was unable to do so. Artesia Councilman Ali Sajjad Taj, the city’s first elected official of Pakistani descent, also attended the mixer. There are more than 7.5 million registered Democrats in California – 44.49 percent of California voters.
