‘It is a sort of a pressure group that we are driving at,’ the Trinamool MP explained. While the AIADMK won 37 of 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, the Trinamool secured 34 of 42 seats in Bengal. They are the third and fourth largest parties in Lok Sabha.
If the two parties want to create an opposition block as is being speculated the law is on their side, according to experts.
“If various opposition parties form a bloc inside the Parliament and appeal to the Speaker in writing, claiming ‘Opposition’ status for the bloc, the Speaker may consider their appeal,” former LS Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said.
