for all. In 2013, five diverse individuals- America’s Got Talent’s Shahil Patel, UC Berkeley’s Mayuri Bhandari, Harvard MBA Minal Mehta, tech expert Brent Lagerman, and fitness expert Fen Tung teamed up to combine their passions for community, fitness and Bollywood dance.
The output was BollyX, a cardio workout that draws its inspiration from the Bollywood film industry of India and gives Zumba a run for its money.
According to instructor Tanya Rami, “BollyX is a dance-fitness program that is inspired by Bollywood. We use songs that are popular on a global platform and combine dynamic movements and choreography to go with it. There are various levels of intensity that gives you a thorough cardio workout.”
Talking about her personal experience, she mentioned, “I absolutely love it! I truly believe it is a unique workout because you are having so much fun all throughout that the time just flies and you do not even realize how much your fitness level is increasing. It is probably my favorite part of the day right now.” Discussing the perks of BollyX, she elatedly added, “This dance form helps you get a whole body workout without even realizing it. Many people do not like going to gym/fitness classes because it is mundane or feels too much like a routine workout. This is different in that you are having fun, amongst a supportive group, and it is constantly changing with new steps to keep you on your toes!” Importantly, one 50-minute BollyX session burns about 500-800 calories and uses high-tempo songs during the complete session. So far, the trend, which started from New York City, has rapidly expanded throughout the US including Puerto Rico, Europe and South America as well. he website also offers some free workout sessions, which one can practice while seeing it at home or at premium rates. In fact, BollyX will soon be coming to Downtown Los Angeles; time, dates and venue will soon be provided to those interested . Meanwhile, one can get further details at www.bollyx.com or contact Tanya Rami at 909-263-5602.
