NEW DELHI - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Leader of the Opposition L K Advani and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Nov 14 paid floral tributes at the portrait of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in the Parliament House on his birth anniversary.

Among others who joined the country top political leadership were Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, New and Renewable Energy Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Minister of State for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath.

Rajya Sabha Secretary General V K Agnihotri and other officers from Parliament too were present on the occasion.

A booklet containing the profile of Nehru, brought out in Hindi and English by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, was presented to the dignitaries after they paid tributes to the late Congress leader.

Nehru’s portrait, which was unveiled by then President of India S Radhakrishnan on May 5, 1966, is kept in the Central Hall of Parliament House.                       (PTI)
