NORWALK, CA – The Academy of Indian Culture of Los Angeles celebrated the 75th anniversary of Gujarati film Industry at the Bhakta Culture Center here on July 13. Several hundred Gujaratis of Southern California attended the function.

The celebration was chaired by Padmashree Sitanshu Yasashchandra, a renowned Gujarati poet and former Vice Chancellor of Saurashtra University. Among the honored guests were, Sally Flowers, Mayor of Artesia, prominent businessmen and social workers. The traditional lamp lighting ceremony was performed by Jivabhai Solankai, Rahul Vyas, Mayank Baxi and Neela Parikh.

Founder President of AIC, Arvind Joshi presented “Geet Gurjari”, a melody of 75 –year-old popular songs, gazals, devotional songs and folk songs along with talented artists of Southern California.

One of the highlights of the evening was the rendering of a song written several decades ago by poet Avinash Vyas and rendered melodiously by 75-year-old artist Shakuntala Vyas.
