SAN JOSE, CA - Anushka and her brother Ashwin Kelkar, 16 and 22 years of age respectively, residents of San Jose suddenly lost both their parents. Sonali Kelkar, a loving and dedicated mother passed away on August 1. After surviving a long battle with ovarian cancer in 2017, her cancer returned aggressively in July and took her life in a matter of days.
Just weeks prior to that, the family also lost Sudhanwa/Manish Kelkar,Sonali’s husband and Ashwin and Anushka’s father. He succumbed to a life-threatening illness he was diagnosed with earlier this year. According to their friends, both Manish and Sonali worked hard to support their family. They were friends one dreamt of having -- supportive, kind, and generous.
Now, Ashwin, a recent college graduate, and Anushka, an 11th grade student, have been hit with this tragedy. With all of the emotional pain this brings, it also carries financial burdens.
