DEATH VALLEY,CA- Brijmohan (Breeze) Sharma recently conquered sauna-like conditions at the Badwater Basin here to become only the second Indian after Arun Bharadwaj to complete the Ultramarathon that stretches a mind-numbing 135 miles. The temperatures during the race hover around the high 100s. The race starts at 279 feet below sea level and rises to 8360 feet at the finish line. Sharma completed the run in 40 hours 47 minutes...

to eclipse Bharadwaj’s effort of 41 hours 07 minutes in 2011.
Sharma, who works with the Navy on the civilian side, funded his own trip, waiting fruitlessly for his sponsors to release funds.
Sharma, who hails from Rajasthan, and now lives in Mumbai, is a mountaineer. He has climbed several peaks around 17,000 to 22,000 feet. A friend from the Navy introduced him to running and he ran a 42-km marathon in his first attempt! Over the course of many runs he realised that he was made for longer and sterner stuff and started running longer distances. To prepare for the Badwater marathon, he ran a series of 100 milers that set him up for the journey. Sharma feels his Rajasthani roots helped him overcome the heat problem.
