REDLANDS, CA-With over 500 guests, a sold out food stall and a standing room only crowd gathered at the University of Redlands – Glen Wallischs Theater to celebrate India’s 70th Independence Day hosted by the India Association of the Inland Empire (IAIE) with pomp, grandeur, and style. The program got off to a flying start with the rendition of the US national anthem following which the audience,
along with the organizers and dignitaries sang the Indian national anthem. The well decked up stage with a giant backdrop of the Indian tricolor was warm and welcoming. The evening had a perfect blend of mesmerizing dances, beautiful singing and instrumental performances by children as well as young adults. Dances ranged from classical Indian dance choreographed to instrumental music and exciting Bollywood dances. Prominent dance teachers from the Inland Empire including Ragini Chandrasekar, Dhruti Patel, Dipa Patel, Ashley Jose and Geetika Jain trained kids as young as 4 years to put up a wonderful performance. The peppy and patriotic Bollywood numbers by various groups kept the audience applauding. The dances were well interspersed with Bollywood songs, poetry recitations, Keerthans and patriotic songs which enthralled the audience.
The event was well organized, coordinated and executed and kept the audience entertained and engrossed for every minute of the three- hour show. Guest of Honor of the event –Gayathri Devi, Veteran teacher at Redlands Unified School District, was felicitated by Chandrasekar Venkatraman, President of IAIE and Committee Members Deval Shah, Suba Rajesh, Jigna Singh, Roop Goyal and Devkinandan Raturi. Keynote addresses were provided by California State Assemblyman Marc Steinorth of the 40th District and Baljit Toor. Every participant was presented with a trophy as a gesture of appreciation and encouragement. To sum it up, it was a wholesome, well executed family event.
