female lead singer; Dr. Bader Iqbal, male lead singer; Rishi Thakar, multi percussion instrumentalist, and Deepak Kumar, tabla player.
They opened the show witn a romatic number from the successful movie “Jurm” titled “Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye,” to a packed hall of almost 400 music enthusiasts.
Following this, the songs leaped in eras to maintain the audience’s attention and to keep them guessing which song will be played next. The classical songs were interpreted into newer styles to create a modern feel to those much loved songs from the past.
The group performed popular songs from various generations. Instruments that would not have been previously considered for these songs were utilized to produce a new and different ambience to the classics.
In between songs, to keep the attention of the audience Mosami Shah and Bader Iqbal cracked jokes related to the relationship of a husband and wife,which kept the audience in splits. Mosami Shah sang, “Lag Ja Gale,” from a popular 1964 movie, “Woh Kaun Thi.” Without this romantic number any Valentine’s Day event would be incomplete.
Never practiced prior to being performed that night, “Manwa Lage,” a recently released Hindi song from “Happy New Year,” was sung and played out effortlessly. The night consisted mainly of Hindi songs with a mix of some Gujarati ones.
Anis Chandani and his group concluded the evening by wishing everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day and thanking them for coming.
Earlier, The emcee for the show IASH newly elected Vice President Ram Singhania welcomed all and introduced Jagdish Purohit,newly elected President. Purohit and Singhania worked together to guess the number of years couples in the audience had been married. 62 years was the longest while 23 was the shortest .Both couples were given a rose but the longest married pair was given a shawl as well. Singhania then introduced the music group and welcomed them by giving each one a rose.
