Central Asian Affairs and US Ambassador to Indonesia. He was accompanied by Safiya Ghori-Ahmed – a director at McLarty Associates. The discussion revolved around US- India trade and commerce, immigration factors as well as the Indian-American community and their political contributions. During the discussion, Blake indicated, President Donald Trump is making many changes in international trade but India is less impacted by his policies given the good relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Trump. Many high-ranking US representatives including Defense Secretary James Mattis have visited India to improve business relations and Kenneth Juster, current US ambassador to India is going to play an important role in improving trade relations with India, he said. According to Blake, immigration is a big contributing factor in US businesses and the economy. His opinion was despite all the concerns about H1B visas, these visas will continue to exist. US will always have the need for skilled labor and Trump is aware of the need for skilled talent . Statistics show that one out of every six startups has an Indian- American as its leader, he said.
He urged political contributors and Indian- American community leaders to call on the politician’s office and let them know what the community wants from them. All politicians have staff assigned to keep track of calls of their constituents even if they cannot attend the calls personally and it makes a difference, Blake advised.
