to help others - we just have not made our voices heard when it counts. By neglecting this civic duty, we are doing a disservice to our city and ourselves. Let’s get involved this year and get out and vote in this election – it’s our time!
You may remember that in 2003 I ran for city council, but unfortunately did not get elected. Due to lack of interest and awareness in local politics, our community was not as aggressive in participating in local government. It was challenging to mobilize the support I needed to get the votes for a council seat.
Now, after more than 10 years, we finally have another Indian-American running and we have another chance to be represented in our local government. Let’s come together and get Naresh Solanki elected. We can do it if we work together and support one another. Local government decisions affect us more than we realize. Utility taxes, street and sidewalk maintenance, zoning, town upkeep, tree teaming, safety patrols, bringing the right businesses into our city, and much more! All these issues are so important - they affect not only our house value, but the right choices keep our city peaceful and prosperous for ourselves and our neighbors. And the wrong choices, well, they hurt us. This is the year we have a chance to have someone from our Indian-American community to help make those very important decisions. Let’s not miss our chance again.
Naresh Solanki is a well qualified candidate. He understands our language and our culture. He’s one of us and a proud American. On the financial side, he knows how to balance the budget without increasing taxes or sacrificing any of the amenities we enjoy. And I am not saying this because Naresh is a politician. No, no he’s not. He’s just an honest man, good friend, and a great administrator. You can be proud to vote for him. I know I will be. I hope the community will not miss out on this opportunity to support one of our own. It’s been 10 years since I ran for city council and I just don’t know how long we will have to wait again for another qualified Indian American to run for city council. Let’s win this election together. (Pathak remains a Cerritos City resident and is actively campaigning for Solanki)
