NORWALK, CA - The Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation (VYASA – LA) on June 21 organized an outdoor celebration of International Day of Yoga at the Sanathan Dharma temple here . Peace and harmony are the hallmarks of Yoga, and about 150 attendees of all ages experienced this doing Yoga on the lawn. Beginning with lighting of the lamp by Babubhaiji, Chakrapaniji and Mansukhji to Swami Vivekananda,
attendees reminded themselves to “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached”. VYASA-LA’s goal is to take yoga to the wider community to promote positive health with the help of just a yoga mat.
This was followed by performances by youth and adults trained by VYASA’s Yoga instructors. A group of 28 youngsters ranging from ages 6 – 17, performed a series of asanas - alone, in tandem, and in groups, demonstrating flexibility and strength. Anjana Rajput has trained children since the last five years to help them break out of body-mind limitations. Moksh, her 16-year old son and younger sister literally stood on their heads, proving it! VYASA-LA’s Mahesh Bhatt, who is also a Gayatri Pariwar leader, encouraged the audience to join in Pragya Yoga, harnessing the power of Gayatri Mantra for spiritual insight into lasting peace and happiness. Dr. Vijaya Kavuri, a PhD inYoga concluded the program by leading the participants through 55 minutes of common protocol yoga practice to invigorate, strengthen and relax them. A home-cooked meal for all wrapped up the event.
