
NORWALK,CA - A event was jointly organized by Joy of Sharing Foundation , Organization of Hindu Malayalees and Anekant Community Center on August 23, at Sanatan Dharma Temple here to raise funds for Kerala flood relief. The program started with a prayer. A video and slide show prepared by OHM was presented by Padmanabhan Iyer showed the extensive damage caused by the rains and flooding.

The presentation ended with a quote from Bhagavad Gita “Charity given to a deserving person, at the proper time and place, without the expectations of anything in return is considered to be Satvik (virtuous) form of charity “.
$62,000 was quickly raised by generous donations and appeals from Dr. Nitin Shah of Anekant Community Center, B. U. Patel of Tarsadia Foundation, Iyer and Bala Palanisamy.
Some of the key donors included Darshana Patel, Ashok and Madhu Patel $ 25,000 from Dallas, TX. Manu and Rika Shah of Sarva Mangal Family Trust gave $ 5,000, Drs. Jasvant and Meera Modi $ 4,000 and Tarsadia Foundation. A follow-up event is planned for September 8 at Sanatan Dharma Temple to raise additional funds to reach a target of $101,000. B. U. A collaborative committee of representatives from the three organizations will analyze and determine where relief efforts are most urgent and funds most needed. “This committee will decide and qualify organizations in Kerala to make sure the funds reach the right relief efforts” said Shah and Ravi Vellatheri who is leading the effort on behalf of OHM.
A delicious dinner was served. Guests were entertained by a Bollywood style fusion dance by Nidhi & Raihan and musical melodies were provided Dr. Dhiren Buch, Maninder Sethi, Sitaraman Vishwanathan and Vidhya Sitaraman.
