Light vocal Categories on Sept 16 at the Curtis Theater, here. The event started with audience standing to observe one minute silence in rememberance of the recent hurricane victims followed by Prasad Upasani is rendition of Vaishnava janato tene kahiya.
In the classical section, twelve contestants participated. Contestants presented various raags like Bhairavi, Yaman, Jaunpuri and others. Hemant Ekbote accompanied the contestants on tabla, Dr. Gopal Marathe supported the contestants on harmonium. Alka Panse and Sridevi Maharaj judged the contestants. Suchi Upasani and Mahi Mendiratta were declared winner and runner up respectively in the children’s category. In the pre teen category, Maya Kamath Namandi, Shreesh Shirekar and Anayan Anim were declared winner, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up respectively. In the teen category Arjun Triknnad won the trophy and Anushree Chaudhuri was the runner up. Among adults,Rohan Ramananan performing raag Yaman was the winner.
After nearly three hours of classical music, light vocal contestants showcased their talent. Contestants wear ably accompanied by Pratik Joshi on Keyboard and Dani Ekbote on tabla. Alka Panse and Vishal Ailawadhi judged the talent. Bollywood.songs from the fifties like ‘Baiju Bawara,’ and ‘Mughal- E- Azam’ to the recent ‘Kaabil’ was presented in live as well as Karaoke tracks. Highlight of the competition were singers playing their own instruments.
